Valkiria/Blood On Blood/2006 CD Review

Valkiria are a band from Italy that has had one of their previous recordings reviewed in this zine with a musical style that I would describe as being melodic black/doom/gothic metal and this is a review of their self released 2006 album "Blood On Blood".

Drums range from slow to mid paced playing with not much in the way of fast drumming or blast beats, while the keyboards bring a very dark, atmospheric, gothic and symphonic sound to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced riffs that combine influences from melodic black metal, gothic and doom metal together to create a sound of their own while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding gothic metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking and full chords to enhance the darkness that is coming out of the music.

Vocals are a mixture of clean singing, deep doom/death metal growls and high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, as for the production it has a very strong and powerful sound to it.

in my opinion this is another great album from Valkiria that goes into a more gothic metal direction than their previous releases and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Blood On Blood" "I've Refused You" and "Something To say". RECOMMENDED BUY.
