Sons Of Crom are a band from Sweden that plays an epic mixture of heavy, doom, pagan and black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "The Black Tower which will be released in August as a joint effort between Nordvis Production and Bindrune Recordings.
An epic sounding intro starts off the album along with a great amount of synths and they also bring in the atmospheric of a fantasy movie and after awhile melodic pagan vocals are added onto the recording and after the intro the music goes into a very fast black metal direction that also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats as well as adding in some high pitched screams.
Some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a great amount of melody while folk instruments are also used at times and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion.
Spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and some songs also bring in stringed instruments along with the guitar riffing and leads also adding in touches of traditional metal and acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly on a couple of tracks while the slow riffs add in elements of doom metal along with all of the tracks sounding very different from each other an d they also close the album with an instrumental track.
Sons Of Crom plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in an epic style of heavy/doom metal while also getting very aggressive at times and mixing in more of a pagan black metal style, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover war, glory, honour, and Norse Mythology.
In my opinion Sons Of Crom are a very great sounding epic mixture of heavy, doom, pagan, and black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In Fore Reborn" "Summoning The Starborn" and "Viimeinen Laki". 8/5 out of 10.
